335 sickened, 4 dead in Zambia’s anthrax epidemic
Health officials reported on Wednesday that anthrax has spread throughout Zambia, resulting in 335 cases of infection and four fatalities thus far.
Six of the ten provinces in Zambia have reported cases of the sickness, which is brought on by eating meat tainted with anthrax, according to Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo.
She stated that the majority of patients had fever, nausea, vomiting, and skin sores or ulcers. She also mentioned that just six individuals were admitted to hospitals in the southern regions of the nation, in the districts of Maamba, Choma, and Livingstone, and that the majority of patients received treatment at home.
“We have implemented a range of public health measures following a ‘one health approach’ to contain and prevent the spread of anthrax,” she told the press.
