UNESCO World Heritage Site Sundarbans Hit by High Tide

Sundarbans is a world heritage site of UNESCO, Sundarbans is currently facing extra tides with the water level of various rivers and canals rising by two to four feet compared to before.

The road at Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Centre has been submerged by approximately one foot of water during high tide. However, no harm to the forest’s wildlife has been observed so far. The water level rises dramatically during high tides but decreases during low tides.  Then the higher areas of the forest become shelters for animals and the risk of damage is reduced.

A combination of excess rainfall and rough seas are responsible for the rise in water levels in this situation, and it is now flowing four feet above the Pashu River.
