Water Levels Falling, Disease Rates Increasing in Noakhali

Due to the slow receding of the flood water, the suffering of the people is not decreasing. On the contrary, various waterborne diseases are spreading in the affected areas.

Fresh water and food shortages are everywhere in the flood-affected areas. As the water recedes, garbage is floating in houses and roads. The stench is spreading. People are suffering from water borne diseases.

It has been found that most of the victims are children. Many are admitted to the health complex. Besides, many patients are receiving outpatient treatment every day.

Some places in the low-lying areas of Lakshmipur still have waist-deep water. There are houses and roads underneath. They demand quick removal of illegal dam to reduce suffering.

Many areas of 5 upazilas of Noakhali are still floating in flood water. Hundreds of thousands of people are trapped in water in Comilla. Crop fields and roads are submerged.

However, in areas where water has receded completely, residents have returned home from shelters.
