14 Bangladeshis are Returning Home After Receiving Pardon from the President of the UAE
57 citizens of Bangladesh were given varying sentences for taking part in protests in support of the Bangladeshi student movement in the United Arab Emirates. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the nation, later pardoned them. Fourteen of them are going home during the first phase.
Earlier, Dr. Yunus requested Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to pardon the sentences of the sentenced Bangladeshis and on September 3, in honor of him, the President of the United Arab Emirates announced a general amnesty to all 57 Bangladeshis who were sentenced. And in view of this, the sentence of 57 Bangladeshis in Bangladesh has been waived.
The first batch of 14 Bangladeshi migrants pardoned by President Sheikh Md Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is expected to return to Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal Airport by 7pm today and Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport by 10pm.
