Environment Advisor Urges DCs to Take Measures to Prevent Hill Cutting
Advisor to Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Water Resources, Syeda Rizwana Hasan has issued special instructions to District Commissioners (DCs) to take effective action against uncontrolled hill and dune cutting in different parts of the country.
She mentioned that natural disasters such as landslides, floods, waterlogging, environmental pollution, loss of biodiversity and soil erosion are increasing as a result of hill cutting. She urged to take concerted initiative to stop this destructive activity immediately.
On Tuesday (September 24), She spoke from the meeting room of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives in an exchange meeting organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change with the District Administrators of 19 districts on the Zoom platform.
The adviser also said that the cutting of mountains is having a serious impact on the quality of life of the local people. Mountains cannot be cut in the name of development. A list of hills should be prepared in every district and strict action should be taken against hill cutters, so that others can learn from it.
The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Lands and Commissioners of various departments and District Administrators of 19 districts.
The District Administrators highlighted the current situation of hill cutting in their areas and promised to take action as per government directives.
