United States Urges Bangladesh to Work with ASEAN on Rohingya Crisis

In order to address the Rohingya situation, the United States has requested Bangladesh to keep cooperating with the ASEAN, an alliance of nations in Southeast Asia.

In a meeting with Muhammad Yunus, high-ranking officials heard remarks made by Dr. Uzra Zeya, the US Department of State’s Undersecretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights and the UN headquarters’ main advisor on the Rohingya problem. He asserted that Bangladesh cannot bear this enormous burden by itself on behalf of the international community.

“Safe, dignified, voluntary, and” stated Uzra Jaya. I am appreciative of Professor Yunus, the Principal Adviser, for his promise to house the Rohingyas in Bangladesh until a viable return is feasible.

A further $199 million in financial assistance for the Rohingya and the residents of the areas where they have been sheltered was also announced by Uzra Zeya.

Uzra Zeya stated, “In the coming days, the United States is ready to work with the interim government of Bangladesh for the betterment of the Rohingya and the local people in the refugee camp area.”

He urged everyone to bring about peace in Myanmar, foster conditions that would allow the Rohingyas to return home and welcome them back.
