Abu Sayed Murder in Bangladesh: Foreign Travel Ban for 14 Accused
In the Abu Sayed murder case in Rangpur, the court issued an international travel restriction for 14 individuals, some of whom were former police personnel.
Roknuzzaman Rokon, the lawyer for the Abu Sayed murder panel, told The Daily Star on Thursday that the court issued this decision on September 30 following a brief hearing in response to the motion of the investigating officer. According to him, they received a written copy of the prohibition on Thursday.
A month after Abu Sayed passed away, Ramzan Ali, his older brother, filed a homicide lawsuit in which he named 17 defendants. In this instance, 130 out of 135 unidentified persons have been charged.
The accused include Begum Rokeya University Branch Chhatra League Presidents Pamel Barua and Rafiur Rahman, as well as former Rangpur Range DIG Abdul Baten, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Moniruzzaman, Assistant Commissioner Al Imran Hossain, Assistant Commissioner Abu Maruf Hossain, and Begum Rokeya University Branch Chhatra League President Moniruzzaman. Asaduzzaman, Babul Hossain, Togar, OC Rabiul Islam, SI Bibhutibhushan Roy and Shamim Mahfuz.
Attorneys for the accused, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, alleged that he was arrested and is currently being held in jail.
