Nusrat Faria Granted Bail in Attempted Murder Case
Popular Dhallywood actress Nusrat Faria has been granted bail in an attempted murder case filed at the Vatara Police Station in Dhaka. On Tuesday (May 20), the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka approved her bail, just two days after her arrest.
On Monday (May 19), she was presented before the court, which ordered her to be sent to jail. Following her arrest, criticism erupted within the entertainment industry and beyond. Many questioned the justification behind her detention. Actor Siam Ahmed commented, “What’s happening to Faria is a farce.” Interim government cultural adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and Hasnat Abdullah also criticized her arrest.
Earlier, on Sunday (May 18), immigration police detained Faria at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while she was on her way to Thailand. She was then handed over to Vatara police, and later that afternoon, taken to the Detective Branch office on Minto Road for interrogation.
The case against Faria stems from an incident during the 2024 anti-discrimination movement. She, along with 16 others, including actresses Apu Biswas, Ashna Habib Bhabna, and actor Zayed Khan, has been accused of attempted murder.
The case was filed by a man named Enamul Haque, who alleged that Nusrat Faria and the other accused opposed the anti-discrimination movement and supported the Awami League government through various activities. The lawsuit also names 283 individuals associated with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration, along with 300–400 unidentified individuals.

Although Nusrat Faria’s bail has provided temporary relief in the case, controversy surrounding the entire incident continues to stir public debate.
