Today is Dedicated to the Remembrance of a Tragic Chapter in History — Holy Ashura
Today marks the observance of Holy Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic lunar calendar. This day holds immense significance and sorrow for the Muslim ummah. On this day in the plains of Karbala, the beloved grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Imam Hussain (RA), along with his family members, embraced martyrdom while standing against injustice.
Muslims in Bangladesh and around the world are commemorating the day with solemnity and deep religious devotion. In Dhaka and various other cities, Tazia processions, special prayers, milad mahfils, and dua gatherings have been organized. Throughout the country, mosques, madrasas, and Islamic institutions are holding Qur’an recitations and discussions to honor Imam Hussain’s (RA) sacrifice.

As Ashura is a public holiday in Bangladesh, people from all walks of life are spending the day in prayer and reflection, both at home and in mosques. Law enforcement agencies have heightened security, especially in areas like Hussaini Dalan in Old Dhaka, to ensure peaceful observance of the day.
The message of Ashura is one of unwavering commitment to truth and justice. The tragedy of Karbala is not merely an occasion of mourning, but a timeless symbol of courage and resistance against oppression.
