U.S. Tightens Rules: Over 6,000 Foreign Student Visas Canceled

The Trump administration has further intensified its immigration policies in the United States. As part of this tightening, the U.S. State Department has canceled the visas of more than 6,000 foreign students this year. The information was confirmed by Reuters, with the initial report published by Fox Digital.

Several key reasons have been cited for the cancellations — including violations of U.S. law, visa expiration, and alleged links to terrorism. According to data, nearly 4,000 student visas were canceled due to legal violations. Additionally, between 200 and 300 visas were revoked under Section 3B of U.S. immigration law, which identifies individuals involved in terrorist or security-threatening activities.

The report also notes that the Trump administration is not only restricting visas but is also monitoring the social media activities of international students. Applicants’ posts, political opinions, and affiliations are being closely examined.

Furthermore, U.S. embassies around the world have been instructed to conduct more rigorous background checks on student visa applicants — particularly those with any history of involvement in anti-U.S. activities or political affiliations.

In a statement to Congress, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “Since January, thousands of student visas have been canceled. We will not allow individuals who create disorder in educational institutions to remain in the country.”

However, the move has drawn sharp criticism from Democratic leaders, who argue that such measures violate the basic rights of students and undermine the global reputation of the U.S. education system.
