The sad demise of five-year-old Ayaan Ahmed led to the filing of a lawsuit against United Hospital, United Medical College Hospital, its two physicians, unidentified directors, personnel, and employees.

It is stated that the young kid died after being completely sedated during the circumcision surgery.

On January 9, the victim’s father, Md. Shamim Ahmed, 32, filed a complaint with the Badda Police Station.

The physicians on trial are Tasnuva Mahzabeen, a surgeon, and Saeed Sabbir Ahmed, a specialist in anesthesia from United Medical College Hospital in Satarkul Badda.

The case statement stated that on December 31, Drs. Sabbir and Tasnuva, together with the nurses who accompanied them, brought Ayaan to the operating room (OT) of the hospital in Satarkul Badda and asked his parents to wait outside for twenty to twenty-five minutes.

When asked about their presence, 30 to 40 trainee doctors entered the OT room during this time, claiming to be in a class with Dr. Tasnuva Mahjabin.

“After 20-25 minutes, I inquired about my son, and they mentioned it would take some more time. As time passed, after one hour, the intern doctors hastily left the room. Subsequently, they continued to delay, stating it would take more time. After 1.20 hours, we realised there was a problem as numerous doctors from the hospital anxiously entered and exited the room,” Shamim stated.

The doctors barged into the OT room and we saw them putting their hands on my son’s chest. They put two tubes on either side of my son’s chest without my consent. He added, “After that, they moved my son under their management to United Hospital, Gulshan, Dhaka.”

Shamim stated that he wanted to take his son to a different hospital for treatment, but they were told they couldn’t.

He claimed that the defendants’ carelessness and improper handling caused his son’s death.

He added that the administration of the hospital withheld information regarding the care given to his son.

Shamim claimed that his son passed away at United Hospital from December 31 to January 7 as a result of careless treatment while he was kept on life support. He accused the defendants of conspiring for personal gain.

Ayaan was then pronounced dead by the hospital and given a Tk5.77 lakh bill.
