Apple Rolls Out AI Features on iPhones- but not for all
Apple has officially rolled out its highly anticipated AI features on select iPhone models with the release of iOS 18.1. However, not all iPhone users will be able to access these new capabilities. Apple’s AI features, powered by the company’s proprietary AI technology are currently limited to iPhone models equipped with Apple’s Pro chips. This includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
What Features Are Included?
The iOS 18.1 update brings a range of AI-powered enhancements, including:
- Revamped Siri: Siri has been significantly improved, offering more natural and contextually aware responses.
- Enhanced Photos App: The Photos app now includes AI-powered features like object removal and enhanced search capabilities.
- AI-Powered Writing Tools: Users can benefit from AI-assisted writing suggestions and grammar corrections.
- Improved Focus Modes: AI helps tailor Focus Modes to individual needs and preferences.
- Call Recording and Transcription: AI-powered transcriptions are available for recorded calls.
Why the Limitation?
Apple’s decision to restrict AI features to newer iPhone models is likely due to the significant computational power required to run these advanced algorithms. Older iPhones may not have the necessary hardware to handle the workload. While the initial rollout is limited, Apple is expected to gradually expand AI capabilities to a wider range of devices in future software updates. As AI technology continues to evolve, we can anticipate even more innovative features from Apple.
