Awami League Leader Babar Led the Attack on Students with a Pistol: Muradpur in Bangladesh
Awami League leader Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar has been accused of leading a violent attack on students in Muradpur on July 16, 2024, an incident that has recently come to light. Reports indicate that Babar, reportedly armed with a pistol, and his associates confronted a group of students, resulting in a chaotic and violent confrontation.
According to eyewitness accounts, the altercation began when Babar and his group allegedly arrived at the scene and brandished firearms, causing significant distress among the students. The altercation led to injuries among several students, who were later hospitalized for treatment. The motives behind the attack remain unclear, but it is believed to have stemmed from a dispute or provocation.
On July 16, six people were killed across the country while standing on the streets demanding quota reforms in government jobs. Among them, three people lost their lives in Chittagong, two in Dhaka and one in Rangpur. The three killed in Muradpur are Farooq, Wasim Akram and Faisal Ahmed.
After pursuing the students, at least 100 activists could be seen in the video standing in front of the “Sadias Kitchen” restaurant in Muradpur. From there, they were hurling stones. Babur later joined forces with more activists and leaders from behind. He was wearing a helmet at the time and was holding a weapon in his right hand. On his right side, wearing a T-shirt and a helmet, stood Nurul Azim Roni. Babur is seen arming the activists and giving them instructions. After a meantime, shotgun-wielding Jubo League activist Delwar, wearing a mask, began fire.
