National Parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury has resigned. Dhaka, September 2, 2024 — In a surprising turn of events, Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, the Speaker of the National Parliament of Bangladesh. It has tendered her resignation today. This move marks the end of her distinguished tenure, which began in April 2013.
According to a Bangabhaban source, Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury submitted her resignation letter to President Mohammad Shahabuddin in the morning of Monday, September 2.

As per parliamentary procedure, the Deputy Speaker will temporarily assume the role of Speaker until a new election is held.
