Bangladesh protesters want Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus to rule the nation.
The interim government in Bangladesh should have Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus as its chief advisor, according to key organizers of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, who also warned that “any government other than the one we recommended would not be accepted.”
Prof Yunus has said to have given consent considering the present situation in Bangladesh.
Yunus blamed former prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, for destroying the legacy of her father ‘Bangabandhu’ Mujibur Rehman.
Hasina resigned from the post of Bangladesh Prime Minister on Monday and fled Dhaka. She landed at Hindon airport near Delhi in the evening and is expected to travel to the UK soon.
“As long as she (Hasina) was there, our nation was occupied. She was acting like a general, an occupation force, and a dictator, in charge of everything. Today, everyone in Bangladesh feels free. Now that we are a free nation, Yunus said.
Yunus also addressed the reasons for the frustration and anger that the Bangladeshi public felt toward the government led by Sheikh Hasina. “A very simple thing, you took away their (people’s) right to vote,” the speaker remarked. They were unable to vent their frustration in a political manner. So that turned out to be just a request for quota adjustments. The government responded in a similar manner, attacking them rather than listening to them as they are not at all in the mood to listen, so it quickly caught up.
The Hasina government has brought charges against Yunus in more than 190 cases. He was found guilty in January 2024 of breaking labor regulations in Bangladesh. Now he is currently free on bond.
