Bangladeshi expatriate found dead in Italy, police suspect suicide

The body of a young Bangladeshi man was discovered by the Italian police and preliminary findings point to a potential suicide connected to the hardship of unemployment.

Sumon Mia  was 25 years old  who was born in Homna, Cumilla is recognized as the deceased.

His body was discovered hanging in Rome’s Tuscolona Agricola park on Wednesday morning at local time and witnesses called the police.

He was later recognized by police who launched an inquiry after receiving assistance from the Bangladeshi Embassy.

Sumon arrived in Italy seven months ago on an agricultural visa from Bangladesh. throughout the first inquiry authorities assumed that Sumon had killed himself. Probably due to stress from being jobless throughout his stay in Italy.

Monirul Islam, the ambassador of Bangladesh to Italy said that the embassy has discussed the situation with the local government.

They have informally notified us that the incident has been verified as a suicide. However, unless we have police approval and we are unable to act.

The ambassador said, “We have assured Sumon’s family of all types of assistance from the embassy and we reached out to them using the address and phone number from the passport.”

Titu Anisuzzaman is an immigration specialist and expatriate said that obtaining an agriculture or sponsor visa for Italy does not imply all is set. He emphasizes how crucial it is to do your research before entering the nation.

Titu Anisuzzaman said that life is simpler for people with family in Italy but more difficult for those without strong connections.

Sumon and many other Bangladeshis who arrived in Italy on agricultural visas are facing this reality.
