Bank Accounts of AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader Frozen by BFIU
Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has seized the bank account of Awami League General Secretary, former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. On Tuesday (August 27), instructions were sent to various banks and financial institutions in the country.
The bank accounts of Obaidul Quader, the General Secretary of the Awami League, have been frozen by the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU). The directive, issued to banks and financial institutions, suspends transactions in accounts under his name or linked to his privately-owned entities for 30 days under the Money Laundering Prevention Act of 2012. Additionally, any locker facilities associated with these accounts have also been suspended for the same duration. Quader who served as the Minister for Road Transport and Bridges it has been out of the public eye since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024
Obaidul Quader was elected as the general secretary of Awami League from October 2016. Later he was elected to this position two more times. He was in charge of Road Transport and Bridges Minister till the fall of Awami League government. Moreover, he was also a Member of Parliament for Noakhali-5 Constituency.
