Bolsonaro is being backed by thousands of Brazilians throughout the coup investigation.
In the midst of an investigation into claims that former President Jair Bolsonaro attempted to plan a coup after losing the 2022 election, tens of thousands of Brazilians have demonstrated in support of the former leader.
After being the focus of a police raid earlier this month, Bolsonaro called the rally in Sao Paulo. On Sunday, he refuted the coup accusations and announced an eight-year ban from running for office.

Earlier this month, Brazilian federal police confiscated the former president’s passport on the grounds that he had altered a draft decree to void election results after he lost to leftist President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva in 2022.
They further claim that he planned to imprison a justice of the Supreme Court and coerced military chiefs to participate in a coup attempt.
The former army officer is also being investigated for a number of other offenses, including allegedly stealing presents from foreign countries, including jewelry from Saudi Arabia, and fabricating COVID-19 immunization certificates.
A week after Lula assumed office on January 8, 2023, hundreds of Bolsonaro’s supporters were also detained and charged with breaking and entering Brazil’s presidential palace, Congress, and Supreme Court.
On Sunday, Bolsonaro declared that his draft order was grounded in the constitution and claimed that he was being persecuted.
