Child dies during circumcision again, two doctors arrested
It has been alleged that a child died due to doctor’s negligence during circumcision at a private hospital in the capital’s Malibagh. Police have arrested two doctors in the case.
The child’s death occurred at the JS Diagnostic and Medical Checkup Center (JS Hospital) in Malibag Chowdhurypara of the capital on Tuesday night.
The dead child’s name is Ahnaf Tahmid (10). Father’s name is Fakhrul Alam. The child was studying in Class IV at Motijheel Ideal School.
Two doctors were taken into custody by police last night in relation to Tahmid’s demise. Mahbub Hossain and Moktadir Hossain are their names.
Moqtadir is the owner of JS Hospital, according to the police. At Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), he practices orthopedic surgery. Mahbub is a physician at the same hospital’s department of anesthesiology.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aolad Hossain of the Hatirjheel Police Station announced on Wednesday morning that the child’s father had filed a case the previous evening. He claimed that his child’s death was the result of the doctor’s negligence. In the case that was filed at the Hatirjheel police station, the hospital’s owner Moktadir, the anesthetist Mahbub, and the surgeon Ishtiaq Azad are all charged. They detained Mahbub and Moqtadir. Ishtiaq ran away from the scene. He is reportedly a physician in Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s surgery department.
Neither the hospital authorities nor the three accused were available to comment on the incident.
Relatives and police sources say that Fakhrul and his wife Khairun Nahar took their eldest child Tahmid to JS Hospital at around 7:30 pm yesterday. Doctors took the child to the operating room under anesthesia and circumcised him. But the child did not regain consciousness. Doctors declared him dead around 11 pm.
Fakhrul, the father of Tahmid, is a businessman who builds homes. He resides in a home next to Khilgaon Railgate with his family. Of the two brothers, Tahmid was the older one. Previously, according to Fakhrul, he and his family resided in Denmark. There, Tahmid, his eldest son, was born. Afterwards, he and his family went back to the nation. They are insane now that they lost their son.
Fakhrul said in a tearful voice, “My healthy child was killed. I told doctors Moqtadir and Ishtiaq not to give full anesthesia to the boy. But they didn’t listen to me. They finished off my gold piece boy.’
Fakhrul also said, ‘I want this incident to be judged fairly. Those responsible should be given exemplary punishment so that such incidents do not happen again.
