Committee on Police Reforms Formed Soon: Home Affairs Advisor
A commission for police reform is set to be established shortly, according to Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The advisor made this statement on Monday afternoon at the secretariat during a meeting with the eight-person team headed by Stefan Lyler, the UNDP resident representative in Bangladesh.
He advocated for the widespread adoption of this change following discussions with the public, civil society groups included. Additionally, he declared that the UN is prepared to offer the required financial and technical assistance in this respect.
He declared that only viewpoints and recommendations that make sense in the context of Bangladesh would be taken into account for additional action and execution. During the discussion several issues like flood recovery and police reforms were discussed.
According to the UNDP resident representative, “Bangladesh police reform should be in such a way that the people can gain trust and confidence in the police and there is no criticism.”
