Damage in Various Districts Due to Continuous Rain
Three days of nonstop rain caused 60% of Khulna’s fish enclosures to be washed away; vegetable and Aman farmers have also sustained losses. The districts of Koira, Paikgacha, Dumuria, and Batiaghata have been the most severely impacted.
The Khulna District Fisheries Office has released information indicating that torrential rains have resulted in the submersion of 1 thousand 549 ponds and farms, as well as 8 thousand 467 enclosures belonging to seven of the nine Than of Khulna. Damage was sustained to 5,845 tons of fin fish (white fish), 7,373 tons of shrimp. The fishing industry in Khulna has suffered losses of more than Tk 99 crore.
Furthermore, the district’s 85 thousand 600 hectares of Aman paddy fields have sustained some sort of damage from persistent rains, according to data from the Department of Agricultural Extension. Two thousand three hundred hectares of crops, including early winter vegetables grown on five thousand six hundred hectares of land, have been impacted.
