Dash Cam Captured Possible Meteor Blazing Over New Zealand
New Zealanders are finding dash cams to be helpful after at least two of them recorded an astronomical event of a lifetime.
A suspected meteor was seen swooping across the sky by Tauranga, New Zealand-based YouTuber Josh Sherborne, who was in route to the gym at the time. Though the extended path of radiating light and the swift speed downhill towards earth would have shown otherwise, he initially believed the dazzling light to be lightning.
A comparable flash of flowing light was also recorded by a dash cam in Auckland, New Zealand.
It was determined by the Auckland Civil Defence and Emergency Management organization that the bright flash was probably a meteor rather than lightning.
Large flashes and loud booms were reported on many occasions around the North Island.
Eyewitnesses witnessing the celestial event were invited to submit their stories on the Auckland Weather Watch website.
“The whole sky lighted up when we were taking a break outdoors on the porch, looking west. One response said, “Like many others, apparently, we thought it was sheet lightning.”
