Declaration on Labor Protest: Several Garment Factories Closed in Ashulia, Savar

Several garment factories in the Savar-Ashulia industrial zone have been temporarily closed following widespread labor protests. The protests erupted over demands for better wages and working conditions, prompting factory owners to suspend operations to ensure safety and address worker grievances.

The demonstrations began last week as workers expressed dissatisfaction with current pay rates and working conditions, calling for improvements in both areas. The unrest quickly escalated, leading to disruptions in production and prompting factory management to halt operations to prevent further escalation.

The statement of a police officer on the demands of the workers, Workers’ demands vary from place to place. Some common demands include payment of attendance bonus and payment for tiffin, stop retrenchment, dismissal of unruly officials etc.

As negotiations continue, factory owners and labor representatives are urged to work collaboratively to find a sustainable solution that ensures fair treatment of workers while allowing businesses to resume normal operations.
