Documentary released on Lionel Messi’s World Cup
The Rise of a Legend is an Apple TV documentary on Lionel Messi, premiered during the first week of the 2024 Major League Soccer season.
Messi has been a success story for Apple TV since joining Inter Miami this summer, and his latest documentary takes viewers behind the scenes of his biggest ambition, winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Messi and Apple agreed to chronicle Argentina’s World Cup campaign approximately three months before the event, owing to an introduction from Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas.
This was before Mas signed Messi to Inter Miami and the MLS this summer, to which Cue said, “He had this ambition of signing Messi and I felt he was insane. Crazy individuals can achieve incredible things on occasion.
Messi treated the event as if it was his final World Cup. But there was one point in the first episode when Messi started, “This could be my last World Cup.”
Apple made a fantastic job of highlighting every setback Argentina had in the 2022 World Cup by including heartbreaking events from Messi’s national team history.
Messi obviously liked spending time with his Argentine teammates, whether it was through card games in his hotel room or training and bus journeys. As a consequence, Messi’s teammates represented him during the World Cup.
