Drone strikes in Afghanistan
Several drone strikes have been carried out in Afghanistan by the US government since January 2001. The US President George W. Bush’s administration was in office when these strikes started. Drone strikes were thought to have increased four or five times during the Trump administration compared to the Barack Obama administration. Trump overturned Obama’s 2016 order directing the CIA to disclose civilian drone strike deaths outside of active conflict zones in 2019.
As of 2021, the US government had carried out at least 13,074 airstrikes, resulting in the deaths of at least 4,138 individuals, including 310 civilians and 73 children. In addition to the US government, the Afghan Air Force (A AF) conducted aerial strikes in afganisthan.
The Central Intelligence Agency murdered Ayman al-Zawahri in a drone operation in Kabul. According to the Taliban, a domestic home in Kabul’s Sherpur neighborhood was the target of the attack. According to the New York Times, which cited an American expert, the house that was hit belonged to a senior aide of Sirajuddin Haqqani, a high ranking official in the Taliban administration.
