The FX series Shōgun, a historical drama set in feudal Japan, has been making major waves in 2024, especially at the Emmy Awards. The show won an impressive 18 Emmys, breaking records for a single season, including the coveted Best Drama Series. Key cast members also achieved historic wins: Hiroyuki Sanada became the first Japanese actor to win an Emmy for Best Actor and Anna Sawai took home Best Actress, making her the second Japanese performer to win an Emmy in the same night.

The series is based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel and focuses on power struggles in Japan during the year 1600. Following its success, there’s already anticipation for a second season. While plot details remain unclear, it is confirmed that Sanada will return as Lord Toranaga. However, other major characters’ fates, like Cosmo Jarvis’ John Blackthorne, remain uncertain.
