Feni-Comilla Region Faces Severe Flooding in Bangladesh.
The flash flood situation has intensified in Feni, Noakhali and Comilla regions of Bangladesh. The worst situation is in Phulgazi, Parashuram and Chagalnaya upazilas of Feni. Houses, roads, crop lands have been submerged in flood water. Thousands of people are still trapped in water in these places.
Due to heavy rains and water coming from India, the water of Muhuri, Kahua and Ceylona rivers in Feni is flowing far above the coastal line. In such a situation, several areas of Feni, Noakhali and Comilla have been completely without electricity. The mobile network is also closed.
The army members started working to rescue the displaced people from yesterday afternoon on Wednesday. In the afternoon, the ISPR informed that the army has been deployed to rescue the flood victims in Parashuram and Fulgazi in Feni. Speedboats and helicopters are being used for rescue operations. More than four thousand people have been rescued.
Meanwhile, due to torrential downpours and heavy rains, the water in the Gomti river in Comilla has risen above the flood limit. There is a risk of major floods in Comilla. Thousands of hectares of cropland have been submerged in water. The water of Gomti river is rising and touching the dam protecting the city of Comilla. If the dam breaks, various areas of Comilla city and Comilla Adarsh Sadar Upazila will be flooded. People are spending their days in extreme fear about this.
District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma said on his official X (ex-Twitter) handle that due to rising water level in Gomti river, the water level of Dambur hydroelectric project had also reached the limit. The gate had to be opened to release the water to save the dam. That is why people living in low-lying areas have been asked to be careful. The India Meteorological Department has said that the entire state of Tripura is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rains for the next two days.
