After Iftar, it is crucial to gradually restore the body’s energy. Initially, light foods such as dates, water, soup, or fruits are consumed to replenish the body’s water levels and restore energy. Experts recommend waiting at least 1 to 1.5 hours after Iftar before having a heavier meal. This allows the digestive system to become more active and reduces the pressure on the stomach, helping to prevent discomfort after the main meal.

Dr. Farah Ahmed, a nutritionist, explains, “Having a heavy meal too soon after Iftar can cause digestive issues, leading to discomfort or indigestion. Therefore, waiting for about 1.5 to 2 hours before having dinner is ideal. This allows the body to adjust properly and aids in proper digestion.”

“If you had a larger Iftar, it’s better to have a lighter dinner. For example, a glass of milk, a banana, a boiled egg, soup, or some vegetables can be a good choice,” advises Dr. Ahmed. “After a heavy Iftar, it is advisable to wait at least 2.5 to 3 hours before having dinner.”
