Five died as a building falls in Nigeria’s commercial center
A three-story residential structure fell in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest metropolis, killing at least five people and trapping many more, emergency response agencies reported Monday.
Twenty-three people have been rescued alive, including seven children and 16 adults,said Ibrahim Farinloye of Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency. “After receiving treatment, nine of the people who were saved alive were released. A woman and her son were among those killed.
Around 14 million people live in Lagos, Nigeria’s most populous metropolis and economic hub, and the residential apartment complex there fell late on Sunday night. The structure was located in the Oyingbo neighborhood.
A group of emergency and relief professionals, together with residents and onlookers, assembled before to daybreak to assist in sifting through the debris in an attempt to find survivors. The apartment complex was situated in a very crowded region of the city, and it is unclear how many people lived there.
