Former Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi arrested in Dhaka
He was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Gulshan area of the capital on Wednesday (August 28) around 1:15 am. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Imran Khan of media wing of RAB headquarters informed this information.
Tipu Munshi has been arrested from Gulshan-1 in connection with the shooting death of gold worker Muslim Uddin Milan during the anti-discrimination student movement. On August 22, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) suspended the bank accounts of Tipu Munshi and his family members. Along with that, the bank account transactions of their owned businesses were also suspended. A case was filed against 119 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in the death of auto-rickshaw driver Manik Mia in Rangpur on August 20 during the student-public movement. Tipu Munshi is also an accused in that case.
Tipu Munshi was the Commerce Minister of Awami League in the 11th National Parliament. In the 12th National Parliament, he was made the President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce.
