G7 Leaders Urge Trump to Ease Trade Tensions Amid Global Economic Concerns
At the G7 summit in Canada, world leaders pressed U.S. President Donald Trump to reconsider his aggressive trade policies, warning that escalating tariffs could destabilize the global economy. European and Japanese officials, already facing steep levies on cars and steel, urged Trump to negotiate trade agreements that would mitigate economic risks.
Trump, however, remained firm on his stance, signing a trade deal with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, calling tariffs “the ultimate protection”. Canadian officials hinted at a possible trade truce within 30 days, while Japan and Mexico continued negotiations to safeguard their national interests.
With tensions high and no clear resolution, the summit underscored the growing divide between the U.S. and its allies on trade policy.
