Government will not set electricity and gas prices, BERC will decide: Energy Advisor
From now on, the government will not determine the price of electricity and gas. The decision will come through Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission-BERC. Energy advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan gave this information at a meeting organized by Foreign Chamber on Sunday afternoon (October 20).
Stating that the cycle of corruption in the power and energy sector has been broken, the adviser said, the previous government was not much interested in gas exploration. Rather, they have built power plants citing urgent reasons and increased demand.
The advisor said, there is no objection if you want to take the initiative to produce renewable electricity. However, if you want to sell electricity to the government, you must come through a tender. He said, the government takes power, but we have taken responsibility. There is no designated bidder in the ministry now.
At that time he said, I personally have no debt. But many people get money from me since taking charge of this government office. Those who give us electricity across the border get dollars.
