In Ashulia, Bangladesh, Workers Blocked the Highway for the Second Day
For the second day in a row, workers from Birds Group are obstructing the Nabinagar-Chandra route, resulting in a 15-kilometer traffic bottleneck.
In protest of arrears and the factory’s reopening, Birds Group employees in the Ashulia industrial region stopped the roadway starting at 9:00 a.m. yesterday.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, the employees, and the owners met at the Directorate of Factory and Institution Inspection, according to Khairul Mamun Mintu, legal affairs secretary of the Bangladesh Garments and Sweater Workers Trade Union Center.
Birds Group was scheduled to pay the workers yesterday, as per the decision made at the meeting, but they didn’t.
The company attempted to get fresh orders despite continuous financial losses, but was unsuccessful. As a result, numerous divisions were closed, including RNR Fashions Ltd., Birds Garments Ltd., Birds Fedrex Ltd., and Birds A&Z Ltd.
In a notice dated August 27, Birds Group stated that it has been experiencing a shortage of employment as a result of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine as well as the worldwide economic crisis.
