In Nigeria, A Fuel Tanker-Truck Collision Claimed At Least 48 Lives

 At least 48 people have died after a truck collided with a fuel tanker in central Nigeria.

The truck was transporting cattle in the accident and at least 50 cattle died. It is known that the truck was going to a northern state.

It is not yet clear how many people were injured in the accident. The bodies of the dead were burned so they could not be identified, so they were buried in mass graves at the site of the accident.

The governor of Niger, Mohammed Umayu Bago, expressed deep grief over the incident. He urged local residents to maintain peace in the accident-hit area. Drivers are urged to drive cautiously and obey traffic laws.

Road accidents occur regularly in Nigeria.  According to AP, the news agency of the Central Road Safety Agency of Nigeria, 1,531 gasoline tankers were involved in accidents in 2020.
