India vs New Zealand: Champions Trophy Final Set for Today in Dubai

The much-awaited Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand will take place today at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM Bangladesh time on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

India, who have reached the final for the third consecutive time, will be up against New Zealand, who are determined to end their 25-year-long wait for a Champions Trophy title.

India secured their second Champions Trophy title in 2013 by defeating England. They had shared the 2002 title with Sri Lanka. However, in 2017, they suffered a heavy defeat to Pakistan by 180 runs in the final. This year, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India is aiming to reclaim the prestigious trophy.

On the other hand, New Zealand last won the Champions Trophy in 2000, defeating India by 4 wickets in a thrilling final. In 2009, they reached the final again but were defeated by Australia, finishing as the runners-up.

India and New Zealand have faced off 119 times in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), with India winning 61 matches, New Zealand 50, and 1 match ending in a tie, while 7 matches were abandoned.

Dubai’s slow pitch conditions could prove to be an advantage for India, with Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy potentially posing a big threat to New Zealand’s batting line-up.

For New Zealand, the in-form duo of Rachin Ravindra and captain Kane Williamson will be crucial in setting up a big total. However, New Zealand’s pacer Matt Henry’s availability is uncertain due to a shoulder injury.

In the event of rain affecting the match, both India and New Zealand will be declared joint champions. If the match ends in a tie, it will move to a Super Over, which will continue until a winner is determined. Fans from both teams are eagerly awaiting what promises to be an exciting finale.
