
Mahmudullah Riyad Bids Farewell to International Cricket
After an illustrious 18-year-long international career, Mahmudullah Riyad has announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. Having already retired from Test and T20 formats, Mahmudullah has now decided to step away from One-Day International (ODI) cricket as well, marking the end of his remarkable journey in international cricket.
On Wednesday, March 12, Mahmudullah took to social media, particularly Facebook, to announce his departure while donning the national red and green jersey. In his heartfelt post, he wrote, “All praise is due only to Almighty Allah. I have decided to retire from international cricket.”

Expressing his gratitude towards his teammates, coaches, and especially his fans, Mahmudullah said, “I want to thank all my teammates, coaches, and especially my fans, who have always supported me.”
He also highlighted the significant contributions of his family throughout his career, saying, “A big thank you to my parents, my in-laws, especially my father-in-law, and most importantly, my brother, Md. Emad Ullah, who has been by my side since childhood, as my coach and mentor.”
Mahmudullah expressed his appreciation for his wife and children, stating, “Lastly, thanks to my wife and children, who have always been by my side, supporting me in both good and bad times. I know, Rayed will miss me in the red and green jersey.”
Accepting the reality of his decision, Mahmudullah said, “Not everything ends perfectly, but you have to accept it and move forward. Peace… Alhamdulillah.”
He extended his best wishes to the national team and the country’s cricket, saying, “I wish my team and Bangladesh cricket all the best.”
Mahmudullah made his debut for the national team in 2007 against Sri Lanka. His last appearance for Bangladesh was in the ICC Champions Trophy, playing against New Zealand in Rawalpindi.
