Ministry: TK 33 crore needed to repair 2,799 primary schools damaged by floods in Bangladesh
In 11 districts, 2,799 government primary schools have suffered damage to their books, furniture, and infrastructure due to flooding in the southeast of the country.
An approximate of Tk 33 crore is the first cost for repairs. This funding will be overseen by the Directorate of Primary Education.
In a meeting yesterday at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the magnitude of the damage was disclosed. In attendance as the primary guest was the ministry’s advisor, Prof. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar. Among those in attendance were Abdus Samad, the director general of the Directorate of Primary Education, and Nurjahan Khatun, the director general of the Mandatory Primary Education Implementation Monitoring Unit.
The affected schools included 763 in Noakhali, 501 in Lakshmipur, 550 in Feni, 22 in Brahmanbaria, 523 in Cumilla, 169 in Chandpur, 164 in Chattogram, 77 in Moulvibazar, 8 in Sylhet, and 22 in Habiganj.
Additionally impacted are 946 learning centers for out-of-school youth spread across 18 Thana in Noakhali, Cumilla, Feni and Lakshmipur.
In order to ensure prompt and efficient repairs and minimize any disruption to students’ education, the ministry is mobilizing resources and collaborating with pertinent organizations.
