Mother Teresa: A Compassionate Mother and Eternal Symbol of Humanity
Mother Teresa — A Symbol of Humanity
August 26 marks the birth anniversary of one of the most revered figures in modern history — Mother Teresa. She was born on this day in 1910 in Skopje, the present-day capital of North Macedonia. Over time, she would become a global symbol of compassion, dedicating her life to the poor, sick, and downtrodden.
Born as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, she felt drawn to a life of faith and service from an early age. At just 18, she moved to Kolkata, India, to begin missionary work. It was there that her lifelong mission to serve humanity truly began.
In 1950, she founded the religious organization “Missionaries of Charity“, which focused on caring for the “poorest of the poor”. The organization opened orphanages, shelters for the destitute, and facilities to care for people with leprosy and other diseases.
For her unwavering humanitarian efforts, Mother Teresa received international recognition, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Though born in Europe, she adopted Indian citizenship and spent her entire life serving the people of India with love and humility.

Mother Teresa passed away in 1997, but her legacy continues to inspire millions around the world. In 2016, she was officially canonized as a saint by Pope Francis, further cementing her place as a beacon of selfless service and love.
Mother Teresa embodied unconditional love, sacrifice, and compassion. On her birthday, we remember her not just as a historical figure but as a timeless reminder that one person’s compassion can change the world. Her life teaches us the value of standing beside those who have no one else.
Today, we remember Mother Teresa with deep respect and gratitude.
