Movement of Garment Workers on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Gazipur, Severe Traffic Jam

In order to demand an attendance incentive, workers at a textile industry in the Bagher Bazar neighborhood of the capital city of Gazipur blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

Approximately 3,000 employees of Mandal Garments began to descend onto the streets this morning at 8 a.m. The roadway between Dhaka and Mymensingh came to a stop.

The industrial police said that garment workers blocked the Dhaka Mymensingh highway and organized a protest march in the Bagher Bazar neighborhood. There have been several traffic stops between Chandna Chaurasta and Mauna. It’s caused a severe traffic bottleneck.

Workers who consistently arrive at work on time are given an attendance incentive of Tk 750 per month by various textile companies, according to Ziaul Kabir Khokon, President of the textile Workers Trade Union Center Gazipur District. The workers have the right, and the demand is legitimate.

Despite multiple attempts, communication with the Mandal Garment Factory administration was not possible.
