New Traffic Guidelines to Control Congestion in the Capital from Saturday

In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will introduce new traffic management guidelines starting Saturday, January 25. The DMP issued an official directive regarding these changes, signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali, in a public notice released on Thursday, January 23.

The notice outlines that traffic control measures already implemented by the DMP Traffic Department in several areas, including Manik Mia Avenue and Tejgaon Industrial Area, as well as Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Avenue, have been effective in easing traffic congestion. The improvements have already started to benefit the general public. Building on these positive results, DMP plans to extend similar measures to additional areas, specifically focusing on the Bijoy Sarani Crossing, to further reduce traffic jams and ensure smoother travel for commuters.

As part of the new traffic management plan, specific changes will be made to the movement of vehicles around key routes. Vehicles traveling from Jahangir Gate towards Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Khejurbagan, and Manik Mia Avenue will no longer be allowed to turn right onto Bijoy Sarani. Instead, these vehicles will be diverted to take a right turn before the Prime Minister’s Office. From there, they will enter the Agargaon Link Road, continuing through either the BICC roundabout or the Agargaon Crossing to reach their respective destinations.

This new arrangement is aimed at preventing congestion at the Bijoy Sarani intersection, one of the busiest areas in the city, and ensuring a more fluid flow of traffic in the vicinity. These measures are part of DMP’s broader strategy to improve traffic management across the capital, particularly during peak hours.

The Traffic Department of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police is urging the cooperation of all residents and commuters to follow the new guidelines and adjust their travel plans accordingly. The department believes that with public cooperation, the changes will contribute significantly to smoother traffic movement, enhancing both safety and convenience for everyone traveling in the capital.
