According to Iran’s official media, the number of fatalities from Pakistani strikes on a border area in the country’s southeast increased to nine from the previous seven. According to Alireza Marhamati, deputy provincial governor of Sistan-Baluchistan province in Iran, “two men were also killed in the missile attack this morning in one of the border villages of Saravan, bringing the death toll to nine,” as reported by the official IRNA news agency.
The Indian Navy’s destroyer INS Visakhapatnam reacted to a distress call from the Marshall Island-flagged merchant vessel Genco Picardy after a drone strike at 11:11 p.m. on January 17 as part of the ongoing attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The ship is currently sailing to the next port of call with no recorded casualties. The incident occurs when the coalition lead by the United States is still hitting Houthi military targets in Yemen in an effort to “degrade” their capabilities.

In response to a distress call from the Marshall Island-flagged merchant vessel Genco Picardy, the Indian Navy’s destroyer INS Visakhapatnam responded to the ongoing attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
On January 18, authorities stated that a boat carrying up to 27 pupils who were out for a picnic capsized in a lake outside of Vadodara, Gujarat, resulting in the deaths of numerous schoolchildren. A few teachers’ deaths have also been reported by the local media. At the Harni Lake, where there is still a hunt for the remaining pupils.
An eyewitness who testified on January 18 before a special CBI court claimed that JKLF head Yasin Malik removed his “pheran,” pulled out a revolver, and started shooting at a group of IAF soldiers about what had happened in Srinagar on January 25, 1990. Malik was identified as the primary gunman in the courtroom by former IAF corporal Rajwar Umeshwar Singh, who managed to escape the terror attack that claimed the lives of four IAF men. Malik, who has been detained in Delhi’s Tihar Jail February 2019, saw the court proceedings via video.
Growing Genetically Modified (GM) crops like mustard in India will lower the cost of high-quality edible oil for the average person and advance national interest by reducing reliance on foreign sources, the Center claimed in a Supreme Court case on January 18. “The most popular edible oil is mustard. India has been using GM oil for many years now. By cultivating oil seeds locally, we hope to lower the cost of edible oil for the average person. Ethanol is imported to the tune of 50–60 percent. These PILs against GM mustard are the result of interests that are opposed to India achieving food security and becoming less dependent on foreign aid. The Center’s attorney general, Tushar Mehta, filed a submission with the Supreme Court.
