On Wednesday, a rare green comet passed over Earth.
Don’t panic if you spot a little green light in the night sky on Wednesday; aliens haven’t made landfall.
NASA and astronomers predict that on Wednesday or Thursday, a rare green comet that has been circling our solar system for the past month will come closest to Earth. Astronomers estimate that at that moment, the comet will be 26 million miles from the globe.
In March of last year, comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) was found when it was already within Jupiter’s orbit. It can be identified by its green glow.
According to NASA scientists, the comet reached its perihelion, or closest point to the sun, on January 12. Stargazers in the Northern Hemisphere were able to see the comet for the first time at the beginning of the month, and a few weeks later, they were able to see the other half of the planet.
“The comet is now visible all night long from northern latitudes but will surely fade from easy observation during the next few weeks,” NASA stated on its website on Tuesday.
