Palestinian killed in crossfire after Israeli raid on West Bank town
After besieging Aqaba, Israeli soldiers invaded the city and burned a structure, but failed to apprehend a wanted Palestinian. During a raid in an occupied West Bank village, Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian man after a fight that ended in the destruction of a structure. Six of the dead, according to three armed Palestinian factions, were militants involved in their operations. Some seemed not to be fighting: Time-stamped CCTV footage from late Wednesday morning appeared to show at least two unarmed Palestinians being shot as they fled gunfire, according to social media posts.
According to Lt. Col. Richard Hecht, a spokesperson for the Israeli Army, the carnage started on Wednesday when forces moved into Nablus to apprehend members of the Lions’ Den, a local armed organization that surfaced last year and has been partially accountable for an uptick in Palestinian violence. According to Colonel Hecht, the organization was preparing for impending attacks and was also behind an October incident that claimed the life of an Israeli soldier who was on patrol in a neighboring area of the northern West Bank.
