Peru was withdrawn as the men’s Under-17 World Cup host this year.
FIFA said on Monday that Peru would not be hosting the men’s Under-17 World Cup because the nation was not prepared to host the competition later in the year.
FIFA has not announced a substitute host for the 24-team competition that is slated to take place from November 10–Dec. 2.
The decision was made a week after FIFA seized Indonesia’s men’s Under-20 World Cup, citing the nation’s refusal to host Israel during the event in May.
FIFA highlighted Peru’s failure “to complete the infrastructure required to stage the tournament in accordance with its commitments.”
“There is now not sufficient time to secure the required investment and complete the necessary work with the Peruvian government ahead of the tournament start date,” FIFA said.
FIFA selected Indonesia and Peru in 2019 to host the corresponding tournament editions in 2021. This has been postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
The Under-20 World Cup is being proposed by Argentina. This week, FIFA is anticipated to confirm the host country.
