Polytechnic Students Rally Nationwide to Press Six Key Demands

Polytechnic students across Bangladesh have launched a nationwide protest today, demanding urgent reforms in technical education and employment policies. Under the banner of Karigori Chhatra Andolon, students from various polytechnic institutes gathered in front of their campuses, forming human chains and holding placards to highlight their six-point demand.

The protests follow dissatisfaction over a recent meeting with education ministry officials, where students felt their concerns were not adequately addressed. Their demands include the removal of controversial craft instructors appointed after 2021, the continuation of the four-year diploma engineering course with full six-month semesters and ensuring that only diploma holders can apply for the post of deputy assistant engineer (Grade 10) and equivalent positions.

In Dhaka, students draped red cloth over the gates of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute as part of their Rise in Red campaign. Similar demonstrations were reported in Jhenidah, Lakshmipur, Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur, and other districts. Protesters emphasized that their movement would continue until their demands are met.

Authorities have urged students to maintain order and avoid disrupting public life. However, student leaders insist that their protests will persist until concrete actions are taken to address their grievances.
