Protests Erupt in Dhaka Demanding President’s Resignation
The students have stood in front of Bangabhaban demanding four points including Sahabuddin’s removal. They took position in front of Banga Bhavan on Tuesday (22 October) around 3:30 pm for the purpose of encirclement and sit-in.
At 12 noon, the Committee for the Protection of Independence and Sovereignty started the procession from Dhaka University Raju Bhaskarya and proceeded towards Bangabhaban. Crossing the police barricades at the High Court Mazar Mor area, it proceeded to Bangabhaban. When they wanted to stay there, they were stopped by the police. Later, the leaders of the Committee for the Protection of Independence and Sovereignty started protesting at the intersection. Besides, half a hundred people went to protest there under the banner of ‘Raktim July-2024’ demanding the President’s resignation. Some have also taken a stand under personal banners.
Public gathering program is going on at Central Shaheed Minar on the call of anti-discrimination student movement demanding the resignation of the head of state and banning of Chhatra League. There, students, people along with coordinators of the platform took a stand.
Sheikh Hasina’s resignation from the post of Prime Minister does not have documentary evidence – President Md. Sahabuddin’s comments have created heated discussions in the country’s politics. Due to such comments, the President. Many people, including students, want Sahabuddin’s resignation. However, a notification sent from the press wing of the President on Monday night said that the issue of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation has been resolved. Md. Sahabuddin urged to refrain from destabilizing or embarrassing the interim government by creating a new controversy.
