RAYE wins a record six awards at the 2024 Brit Awards.
A record six awards including artist of the year, album of the year (for my 21st Century Blues), song of the year (for “Escapism” starring 070 Shake), R&B act, new artist and composer of the year went to RAYE at the 2024 Brit Awards. This beats the previous record of four trophies in one night shared by Blur (1995), Adele (2016) and Harry Styles (2023). The previous two years Adele and Styles were named Artists of the Year. Although RAYE is not yet in the same category as their global superstars and she is getting there thanks to this powerful demonstration of support in her native nation.
RAYE cried and said, “You just don’t understand what this means to me,” after winning the album of the year. I’m crying ugly in front of the whole country. I’ve always just ever wanted to be an artist. I now have an album of the year as an artist.
Since “One Kiss” by Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa five years ago “Escapism” which peaked at No. 1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart and as high as No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 is the first collaboration to win song of the year. This year, the pop artist category was divided into two categories British R&B act (RAYE) and pop act (Dua Lipa). Two years prior, Dua Lipa had won in the mixed pop/R&B category. It was her seventh Brit Award overall.
The Brits were place on Saturday, March 2 in London’s O2 venue. The ceremony was co-hosted by Roman Kemp, Maya Jama and Clara Amfo.
Three-quarters of award wins women and non-binary people .The three international artist prizes were entirely won by female artists.
The Rising Star Award went to The Last Dinner Party. Since the category’s inception in 2008 they are the first all-female group to win.
Calvin Harris triumphed in the dancing act category, defeating Becky Hill, the previous two years winner. Regarding the song of the year nominee “Miracle” Harris collaborated with Ellie Goulding whom he complimented in accepting the award.
