The Right Livelihood Award Foundation awarded the prize to the Japanese environmentalist Phyllis Omid, the European humanitarian organization SOS Mediterranean, the organization “Mother Nature Cambodia,” the Ghanaian woman Eunice Brookman-Amissah, and the women’s rights activist Eunice Brookman-Amissah. The physician Brookman-Amissah was highly praised for paving the way for more liberalized abortion laws and improved access to safe abortion procedures. Brookman-Amissah establishes safe and legal abortions in Ghana.
