Riyaz’s Body was Sent From Libya to Faridpur Via a Broker to Travel to Italy

A resident of Charballabdi village of Ballabdi union of Faridpur’s Saltha thana dreamed of going to Italy in the hope of a better life. Riyaz Munshi. But he chose the illegal way. This 20-year-old youth handed over 15 lakh to the broker to go to Italy.

Last Ramadan, he left for Libya and was held there by brokers who demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh from his family. His family said that his arms and legs were broken by the brokers for non-payment and Riaz’s body arrived in the country last Sunday.  After the investigation, the police handed over the body to Riaz’s family on Monday.

Riaz’s family is deeply distressed by the complications surrounding the repatriation of their loved one. They are demanding clarity on the reasons behind the detour and are calling for accountability from the parties involved in the process.

A relative of Riyaz said that he used to work in agriculture.  If there is no convenient income there, even if you start a business, you will not have that kind of income. Then Son of Shahin Khan of Gopalganj, Shakil, tempted him to send him to Italy.  Riaz took a loan and gave him 15 lakhs.

Last 15 days, Riyaz’s brother Rakib Munshi filed a case under the Human Trafficking Act in the police station naming Shakil and five others as the plaintiff.
