Russell viper is a highly venomous snake in the family Viperidae native to the Indian subcontinent and one of the big four snakes in India. The species is named after Patrick Russell, a Scottish herpetologist who first described many of India’s snakes in the 1790s.
According to reports, Russell viper can be found in at least 25 districts in Bangladesh, including Chandpur, Patuakhali, Khulna, Barisal and the surrounding areas of Dhaka.
