Russell viper is most dangerous snake in Bangladesh.

Recently, false information on Russell viper has been making the rounds on social media, leading to widespread panic among the public in Bangladesh. These misleading posts, often sourced from different parts of the world, have generated significant misconceptions about the snake, its danger and its prevalence.

Russell viper is a venomous snake primarily found in India, Taiwan and Indonesia, but it is also present in Bangladesh.

Russell viper is a highly venomous snake in the family Viperidae native to the Indian subcontinent and one of the big four snakes in India. The species is named after Patrick Russell, a Scottish herpetologist who first described many of India’s snakes in the 1790s.  

According to reports, Russell viper can be found in at least 25 districts in Bangladesh, including Chandpur, Patuakhali, Khulna, Barisal and the surrounding areas of Dhaka.
